The City is implementing its 2021 stormwater pond maintenance projects (see project map below). These project locations were chosen based on the comprehensive survey and subsequent prioritization of the City’s entire network of stormwater ponds completed in fall of 2020. This is the first project in what is anticipated to be a robust annual stormwater pond maintenance program. This work will be paid for utilizing the Surface Water Management Fees collected with utility bills and new developments, with no additional cost to property owners.
The general scope of work includes removing obstructions to access the ponds, cleaning out accumulated sediment, stabilizing eroded areas, repairing storm pipes and structures, and restoring the disturbed areas. All work will be performed within city owned easements. The 2021 projects are currently in design phase with construction anticipated late winter 2021/early winter 2022, with final restoration occurring in spring 2022.
Access to the ponds will be different at each location and the City will work with adjacent property owners ahead of and during construction to communicate the scope of work. It is likely that some trees and other vegetation may need to be removed in order to access each pond.
If you have any questions about this program or the particular work at these locations, please contact the City’s Water Resources Coordinator, Matt Unmacht at MUnmacht@ci.chanhassen.mn.us or at 952-227-1168.
