April 29, 2021
Beginning Thursday, April 29 the contractor will be on-site working on site grading, turf restoration, and other remaining punch list items for the project. While the corridor and pedestrian crossing system will remain open and active during this work, pedestrians and vehicles are advised to keep an eye out for construction equipment and personnel while navigating cautiously through the construction work zone. Also, please be on the look-out for temporary flagging operations as needed to complete the work.
January 15, 2021
The new and enhanced pedestrian crossing of Powers Boulevard at Lake Lucy Road has been activated and the project has achieved substantial completion. The RRFB (Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacon) system is designed to increase the visibility of pedestrians utilizing the crosswalk. Final restoration and punch list items will be completed Spring 2021.
November 16, 2020
This week contractors are planning to pave the trail and the wear course on Powers Boulevard. They plan to complete the traffic switch and pavement markings, as well as restore the topsoil to everything north of Lake Lucy Road. Later in the week, they will be working on the median.
November 9, 2020
This week contractors will be working around the weather to complete a few things. They plan to rebuild the retaining wall and install the railing, restore the topsoil and work on the trail.
October 27, 2020
Contractors will be paving the street, working on the retaining wall, as well as backfilling the curb and grading, through the end of this week. They are scheduled to install the railing on Monday and plan to work on grading the embankment and putting down class 5 for the trail through the middle of next week. Once that is complete, they can pave the trail.
October 26, 2020
Crews have been busy constructing the project and are scheduled to finish this year but the early winter weather has been making it difficult. Traffic is currently shifted over to the west side of Highway 17 as crews reconstruct the east half of the road. During the week of November 2nd, traffic will be switched to their respective lanes while work in the new median is complete. Construction should wrap up just before Thanksgiving.
October 15, 2020
Friday, October 16, the contractor will be finishing removals of the wall and pavement and preparing for curb construction which is slated for Monday, October 19 or Tuesday, October 20. Upon construction of the curb, work will begin to finish constructing the retaining wall and grading for trail paving, as well as beginning work on components for the pedestrian crossing system. Tentatively, paving of the east portion of Powers Boulevard is slated for the week of October 26th.
September 30, 2020
The contractor will be working on site tonight, outside of normal working hours. There will be a traffic control switch and the later hours will make this much safer and have less of an impact on traffic. The work will be complete by 9:00 p.m.
September 22, 2020
The contractor will be working on site tomorrow milling the west side of Powers Blvd. and finishing the full depth patching on the south side. Grading the slope and backfilling curb is scheduled for Thursday. Seeding is planned for Friday, all of which is weather dependent.
September 17, 2020
Thursday 9/17: Excavation occurring for pedestal foundations, handholes and cabinet pads. Roadway will be prepped for paving. Curb will be backfilled and prepped for topsoil.
Friday 9/18: Concrete foundations will be poured. Base courses of asphalt will be paved. Topsoil and turf restoration measures will be spread.
Week of 9/21: Trail will be temporarily patched with gravel and turf restoration measures will be finalized early in the week. Guardrail installation is scheduled for middle of the week. Pavement milling and wearing course overlay will occur toward the end of the week and striping following closely behind.
Week of 9/28: Tentative date to switch traffic lanes over to west and begin work on the east side of Powers Boulevard.
All of this is weather dependent, but as of this morning we are able to add the latest update with a few more details.
September 16, 2020
This week: Class five will be graded and toleranced as the contractor preps for paving. Backfilling curb and gutter will also take place, and the electrical contractor will be installing the concrete foundation for the mast arm.
Next week: Bituminous paving, guard rail installation and restoration behind the curb, will all take place on the west side of the project. The trail on the east side of the project will be patched in with bituminous as well.
September 11, 2020
This week the contractor prepped phase 1 of the project for concrete curb and gutter installation. The placement of curb and gutter is scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, September 12, weather permitting. Backfilling of the concrete curb is scheduled for next week followed by paving operations.
September 3, 2020
The water main and storm sewer work have been completed for stage one on Powers Boulevard. Excavation and grading for the expanded west side of Powers Boulevard are underway and should wrap up early next week. Once the excavation is complete, construction of the base components of the pedestrian crossing system will be installed. During this time, the majority of the work will be concentrated in the northwest corner of the Powers Boulevard and Lake Lucy Road intersection. This work should wrap up around September 11th or early the week of September 14th. Curb and sidewalk on the west side of Powers Boulevard is tentatively scheduled for the week of September 14th, weather permitting.
August 17, 2020
The small utility relocation work is coming to an end, so the contractor can begin construction starting the week of August 24th. Advance traffic control notice for the closure of the west leg of Lake Lucy Road will be going up today. A road closure is tentatively scheduled for the 26th-28th. Advance notices for a watermain shutdown on the 27th will be handed out to the affected residents today or tomorrow (17th or 18th) and we will hand out a more detailed one as we approach the shutdown date. Xcel has completed its utility relocation, making way for Centurylink and Mediacom to relocate. Once they have finished the contractor can begin work. We expect construction on the Pedestrian Crossing Project to start around the middle of August.
