Project Updates

October 14, 2021

Kurvers Point Road Area:  Paving of the base course will begin this afternoon around 12:30pm, tentatively and continue into tomorrow.  We are working with the school bus company to minimize any impacts this may have on bus routes.  Parents meeting the bus, please keep vehicles out of the way of paving equipment. Contractors are tentatively scheduled to finish concrete work on Friday. Next week, contractors will be doing some patching and driveways, backfilling with top soil and seeding, and adjusting the manhole castings and gate valves in preparation for the wear course paving, which is tentatively scheduled for October 29th

Marsh Drive Area:  Contractors will be adjusting manhole castings and gate valves, along with other prep work next week.  Paving is tentatively scheduled for October 27 and 28th.

Trapper Pass Phase 1:  Irrigation & invisible fence repairs, landscaping & restoration, and punch list work will be taking place over the next few weeks.

Trapper Pass Phase 2:   Adjustments to manhole castings and gate valves in the street will be taking place today and into next week in preparation for paving the wear course which is tentatively scheduled for October 19th and 20th.  In the Timber Hill area, grading will be occurring on Monday, followed by base course paving on Wednesday of next week.  Wear course paving of Timber Hill is tentatively scheduled for October 29th.  Irrigation and Invisible fence repairs, landscaping, restoration, and punch list work will be taking place over the next few weeks.  

Lake Lucy Road Area, Redwing Lane Area and Choctaw Circle Area: Inlet protection has been taken out in some areas and will continue to be removed over the next few weeks. These three project areas will have work occurring intermittently over the next few weeks consisting of remaining punch list items.

Kurvers Point Road Area: Reclaiming operations are taking place today and beginning tomorrow crews will be removing excess material, grading, re-compacting and tolerancing. Paving of the base course in tentatively scheduled for
October 14th.

Marsh Drive Area:  The base course paving, is scheduled for tomorrow and Friday, October 7th and 8th.  They plan to start on Dakota Lane, near the park and move to the east.  Please have vehicles off the street from 7am to 6pm to be out of the way of paving operations. The Discovery United Methodist Church, located at 275 Lake Drive East, has graciously offered to allow parking in their lot for those needing a place to park during road construction in the Marsh Drive area.   Beginning, Monday, October 11th crews will be patching driveway ends, and backfilling top soil is planned to begin on Wednesday, October 13th

Trapper Pass Phase 1:  The wear course paving has been completed. Irrigation and invisible fence repairs, landscaping, restoration, and punch list work will be taking place over the next few weeks.

Trapper Pass Phase 2:  Storm sewer work has been rescheduled for Monday, October 11th and Tuesday, 
October 12th on Timber Hill Road, which will require a road closure between Pleasant View Road and Oxbow Bend. September 30, 2021

Paving and Driveway Patching may occur Saturday, October 2nd in the Trappers Pass Phase 1 and Phase 2 areas--Weather Permitting.

Kurvers Point Road Area: Crews began setting up for curb replacement work today and will be pouring curb Friday October 1st and Monday October 4th.  Next week crews will be lowering manhole castings and preparing for reclaiming operations, which are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, October 6th.

Marsh Drive Area: Crews will continue grading, re-compaction and tolerancing, followed by concrete crews putting in the curb replacements on Monday, October 4th and Tuesday, October 5th, and the base course paving, which is tentatively scheduled for October 8th and 11th - weather permitting.

Trapper Pass Phase 1:  The wear course paving is scheduled for October 1st and 4th - weather permitting. Adjustments to manhole castings and gate valves in the street will be taking place before October 1st in preparation for paving the wear course. Crews will be doing some testing and soil corrections in the Piedmont Court area.  Irrigation & Invisible fence repairs, landscaping & restoration, and punch list work will be taking place over the next few weeks.

Kurvers Point Road Area: Utility crews have completed the work on gate valves, hydrants, drain tile, and storm sewer installation.  Curb removals are occurring today and on Monday, September 27th. Replacement of curb will begin on Tuesday, September, 28th and go on for a few days.  Reclaiming is tentatively scheduled for Monday, October 4th.

Marsh Drive Area: Utility crews will continue with work on the storm sewer next week near the pedestrian access to the park. The road will be closed next Monday & Tuesday, September 27th and the 28st to facilitate the installation of storm sewer. The physical closure will be near the pedestrian access to Rice Marsh Lake Park. All residents on Dakota Lane will have access to their property, but may need to change the direction from which they enter/exit the area. Reclaim operations for the road are scheduled for September 27th and 28th followed by grading, re-compaction and tolerancing, with the base course paving tentatively scheduled for October 8th and 11th - weather permitting.

September 17, 2021

Kurvers Point Road Area: Utility crews work is ongoing and consists of gate valves, hydrants, drain tile, and storm sewer installation.

The water will be shutoff on Tuesday, September 21st from 9am to 2pm for residents in Basswood Cir and properties on Kurvers Point Rd that are south of Basswood Cir.

Marsh Drive Area: Curb removals are in progress and may occur tomorrow. Curb replacement will begin on Monday, September, 20th and go on for a few days. Utility crews will continue with work on the storm sewer next week. Reclaim operations for the road are tentatively scheduled for September 27th and 28th with the base course paving tentatively scheduled for October 8th and 11th - weather permitting.

There will be a road closure on Dakota Lane next Monday & Tuesday, September 20th and the 21st to facilitate the installation of storm sewer.  The physical closure will be near the pedestrian access to Rice Marsh Lake Park. All residents on Dakota Lane will have access to their property, but may need to change the direction from which they enter/exit the area.

The Mediacom line in the Marsh Drive Area has been repaired and service restored.  Thank you for your patience.

Trapper Pass Phase 1:  The base course paving is scheduled for today and Friday to cover the gravel in this area.   Backfilling behind the curb with topsoil will also be happening tomorrow in the Staghorn and Trapline areas.

Trapper Pass Phase 2:   Reclaiming is scheduled to begin Monday, September 13th and will take three to four days.  The reclaiming will be followed by grading, re-compaction, and tolerancing tasks in addition to adjusting manhole castings and gate valves in preparation for paving the base course of asphalt.  Work on the curbing and raising inlets will also continue.

Kurvers Point Road Area:  A utility crew is starting utility work in this area today.  They will begin working on gate valves in the water system and move on to the storm sewer work next week.

Lake Lucy Road Area, Redwing Lane Area and Choctaw Circle Area: These three project areas will be wrapping up with remaining punch list items being completed over the next couple of weeks.

Marsh Drive Area:  A Mediacom line was hit in the Marsh Drive area.  We are working with Mediacom to assess and repair the severed line as soon as possible.  It appears that although utility locates were done, this section of line had shifted to outside of the marked area.  Thank you for your patience.

September 1, 2021

Trapper Pass Phase 1:  The base course paving is scheduled for tomorrow and Friday, September 2nd and 3rd.  Please make sure all vehicles are off the streets before 7:00am. Curb replacement will continue the rest of this week.

Trappers Pass:  The power was restored this morning, shortly after the outage was reported in the Trappers Pass area. There is no evidence that this outage was caused by a construction issue and an investigator with the utility company will continue to look into the cause.

August 26, 2021

Lake Lucy Road Area, Redwing Lane Area and Choctaw Circle Area: These three project areas will be wrapping up with remaining punch list items being completed as needed.  

Trapper Pass Phase 1:  The contractor has finished the reclaiming work in phase 1.  Repairs to irrigation systems are underway.  The crews will continue with removal of excess gravel, grading and re-compaction work throughout the area in preparation for paving the base course.  Adjusting manhole castings and gate valves, in addition to restoration work will follow, prior to paving the final asphalt wear course. With rain expected the next two days the asphalt base layer paving could be pushed back to September 7th and 8th.

Trapper Pass Phase 2: The utility crews have finished up the majority of the utility related efforts in the area.  Curb removal will be occurring the rest of this week and into next week as weather permits.  Later next week curb replacement will begin and reclaiming is tentatively scheduled to begin September 7th.

Lake Lucy Road Area, Redwing Lane Area and Choctaw Circle Area: These three project areas will continue with work on remaining punch list items over the next couple of weeks.  

Trapper Pass Phase 1:  The contractor has scheduled reclaiming of the streets in phase 1 on August 19th and 20th.   To learn more about the reclaiming work, check out this YouTube video at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVwMZ01c_Cg.  The reclaiming will be followed by grading, re-compaction, and tolerancing tasks in addition to adjusting manhole castings and gate valves in preparation for paving the base course of asphalt.  Base paving has been tentatively planned for September 2nd and 3rd.  The soil correction work in the cul-de-sac at Staghorn Lane and the intersection with Trapper’s Pass will occur next week.  Reclaiming will be followed by removals, subgrade prep, draintile and gravel installation, and curb replacement.  Curb removal will also occur in the west end of Trapline Ln after the reclaiming, and be followed by the addition of gravel and curb replacement.

Trapper Pass Phase 2: There will be a Road Closure Monday, August 23rd through Tuesday, August 24th in the Cascade Pass area, to install a deep storm structure. The closure will be adjacent to 6224, 6226, 6217, and 6219 Cascade Pass.  Properties south of this location will be able to have access from the south.  Properties north of this location will need to utilize Castle Ridge to access their properties.  Construction work on the water main, storm sewer, and drain tile continues and is expected to wrap up near the end of next week.

Marsh Drive Area:  Utility work in the Marsh Drive area is expected to begin along Hidden Lane the week of

Kurvers Point Area:  Construction work is tentatively planned to begin in this area the week of September 20.

Road Closure & Water Shut-Off:  Approximately 200 feet of Mountain Way, just east of Oxbow Bend, will be closed tomorrow and the next day in order to facilitate construction activities.  Traffic will not be affected on Oxbow Bend and all driveways on Mountain Way will be accessible from Near Mountain Blvd.  In association with this closure, a water shut-off will affect residents on Mountain Way and on Oxbow Bend between Mountain Way and Trappers Pass. Impacted residents have been notified that the water will be shut-off from 8am to 4pm on Wednesday and from 8am to 6pm on Thursday.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Lake Lucy Road Area:  Placement of the wear course of bituminous will occur on Friday, July 16th. Please have vehicles off the street from 7am to 6pm, so they are not in the way when paving operations are ongoing.

Redwing Lane Area:  The Contractor is planning to place the wear course of bituminous on Saturday, July17th.  Please have vehicles off the street from 8am to 6pm, so they are not in the way when paving operations are ongoing.

Choctaw Circle Area: Construction continues in the area with bituminous patching, restoration and repair of the boulevard, and raising manhole castings planned for the beginning of the week.  Milling activities and placing the bituminous base at the entrance of the neighborhood are planned for mid-week, followed by paving of the wear course tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 23rd

July 13, 2021

Trappers Pass Area: This afternoon at the intersection of Oxbow Bend and Trappers Pass a gate valve failed which created a need for an emergency water shut down, which is affecting some residents in the immediate area. The contractor is in the process of repairing the problem and water is expected to be back on around 8:00pm.

July 8, 2021

Lake Lucy Road Area: Manhole castings in the roadway will be dug up and raised tomorrow in preparation for the final lift of pavement. Placement of the final lift of bituminous is tentatively scheduled for July 14th. Please keep vehicles off the street from 7am to 6pm to be out of the way when paving operations are ongoing. Landscaping restoration will continue into next week and work will be occurring in the Lake Lucy area on Saturday, July 10th.

Redwing Lane Area: Patching of the roadway will be taking place tomorrow Friday, July 9th. Please keep vehicles off the street from 7am to 6pm to be out of the way when paving operations are ongoing. Milling operations and paving for the roadway is tentatively scheduled for July 14th. Landscape restoration will also begin next week, followed by paving the final lift of bituminous tentatively scheduled for Friday, July 19h.

Choctaw Circle Area:  Curb and gutter replacement is scheduled for tomorrow Friday, July 9th. Next week contractors will be working on irrigation repairs, replacing topsoil, street patching and raising manhole castings in preparation for paving operations.

July 1, 2021

Work will be occurring on Friday, July 2nd in the Redwing Lane, Lake Lucy, and Choctaw Circle Area. No work will occur on Monday, July 5th for the holiday.

There is a scheduled shutdown of the water main tomorrow in the Choctaw Circle Area from 8am to 1pm.

Lake Lucy Road Area: Site restoration of irrigation systems, pet fences, turf and landscaping will continue into next week. Placement of the final lift of bituminous is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 12th. Please keep vehicles off the street from 7am to 6pm if possible to be out of the way when paving operations are ongoing.

Redwing Lane Area: Site restoration of irrigation systems, pet fences, turf and landscaping are to being next week. Towards the end of next week the road will being to get patched with bituminous in order to prepare for the mill and overlay of the street which is tentatively scheduled towards the end of next week and into the week of July 12th.

Choctaw Circle Area: Utility work for the water main and storm sewer is ongoing. There may be some delays for cars trying to move around equipment in the street. Every effort will be made to limit those delays to 10 minutes or less. Please use extra caution for your safety and the safety of those working in the area. Curb and gutter removal and replacement is tentatively scheduled for next week.

Work will be occurring on Saturday, June 26th in the Lake Lucy Road Area and Redwing Lane Area from 9am to 5pm.

Lake Lucy Road Area: Grading operations for the road are ongoing. Paving of the new bituminous base section is planned to occur on Wednesday, June 30th. Site restoration of irrigation systems, turf, and pet fences are ongoing. Placement of the final lift of bituminous section will occur after the 4th of July. Please have vehicles off the street from 7am to 6pm if possible so they are not potentially in the way when grading and paving operations are ongoing.

Redwing Lane Area: Storm sewer work is ongoing and will be done on Saturday, June 26th. Curb and gutter replacement will take place on Monday, June 28th and Tuesday, June 29th. The Contractor currently plans to mill the bituminous surface after the 4th of July.

Choctaw Circle Area: Construction has started in the area and work on the utilities are ongoing.

Lake Lucy Road Area: Reclaiming operations for the road will begin on Monday, June 21st and Tuesday, June 22nd. They will then remove the excess gravel, grade, re-compact, and water the gravel base section the remainder of the week.  Paving of the new bituminous base section is planned to occur on Tuesday, June 29 or Wednesday, June 30.  Topsoil placement, restoration of irrigation systems and pet fences, along with landscaping work will occur mostly after the paving of the base section but some may occur prior to the paving.  Placement of the final lift of bituminous section will occur after the 4th of July. Please have vehicles off the street from 7am to 6pm if possible so they are not potentially in the way when reclaiming, grading, and paving operations are ongoing. Please proceed with caution, slow down, and drive safely.

Redwing Lane Area: Water main work has been completed and no shutoffs of the water main are scheduled moving forward, thank you for your patience. Storm sewer work is ongoing for this week and into next week. Curb and gutter removals will occur at the end of next week and replacement of the curbing is planned for the following week as well as other tasks such as adjusting structures. The Contractor currently plans to hold off milling the bituminous surface until after the 4th of July. Please proceed with caution, slow down, and drive safely.

Contractors will be pouring curb and gutter replacements tomorrow, Friday June 11th  in the Lake Lucy Rd area. Work on the drain tile will also continue. 

Construction has started in the Redwing Ln area.  Work on the utilities will be ongoing.

June 4, 2021

The water main break on the main feed line from the Lake Lucy Ground Storage Reservoir located at Powers Blvd and Lake Lucy Rd was repaired and completed on Wednesday, June 2nd at 9pm. All residents were back in service around 9:30pm. If you have very low water pressure or any other issues please contact the Utility Dept. at 952-227-1300. If you have brown colored water, just run a faucet for 10 minutes or so until it clears up. Sorry for any inconvenience.  The scheduled utility work has resumed in the Lake Lucy project area and will continue into next week.

June 2nd Update

We have shut down the water on Lake Lucy Road between Powers Blvd and Nez Perce Dr due to investigation into the watermain break.  The shutdown should only be a couple of hours at the most until it is safe to turn the water back on.  If you’re affected by the shutdown, a representative from the City or our contractor attempted to notify you directly at your door.  If you have any questions, please call the City at 952-227-1300.  Thank you for your patience.

June 2, 2021

While excavating for a water valve repair yesterday afternoon, we had a watermain break on the main feed line from the Lake Lucy Ground Storage Reservoir located at Powers Blvd and Lake Lucy Rd.  This resulted in a short term water outage for a limited number of residents but also decreased pressure for a larger area.  All residents were back in service around 6PM last night, but the overall water system may be operating under lower pressure until the break is repaired.  If you have very low water pressure, please contact the Utility Dept. at 952-227-1300.  If you have brown colored water, just run a faucet for 10 minutes or so until it clears up.  There may be short term closures of Lake Lucy Road east of Powers Blvd while the repair is being made.  Sorry for any inconvenience.

May 10, 2021

There will be work in each area/neighborhood ahead of the construction start dates. Consisting of utility locating, erosion control installation, surveying, and some construction planning. There will be spray painting on pavement, curb, and in the boulevard area with flags and survey stakes placed ahead of construction. The City request’s that property owners do not remove the flags or survey stakes.  

The Contractor will mobilizing into the Lake Lucy Rd Area on May 17th and will start doing utility work in the roadway.

April 27, 2021

The City Council approved the bids and awarded the construction contract for the 2021 City Pavement Rehabilitation Project to Northwest Asphalt, Inc. at the council meeting last night.  The Final Assessment Roll was also adopted.  City staff will hold a pre-construction meeting with the contractor later this week to work out details regarding the preliminary construction schedule.  Construction is expected to start in early May.  Check back to this page for weekly construction updates and sign-up with Notify Me to have those updates automatically sent to you by email or text message.

An Open House meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, April 14, 2021 from 4:30-6:00 pm at the Chanhassen Recreation Center.  At this meeting you will have the opportunity to review the project design and construction details and ask questions related to the project and the proposed assessment. This will be an informal meeting with no presentation so please feel free to join us at any time during the meeting.

Progress is being made to restart this project for the 2021 construction season. A revised feasibility study will be presented to City Council on January 11, 2021.

July 30, 2020

In light of recent state funding losses stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic and out of concern for the potential negative economic impact assessments might have on some Chanhassen residents, the City Council voted Monday night to postpone planned road construction projects for 2021 and beyond and reassess at a later time.

July 14, 2020

The formal adoption of the Assessment Roll and the Award of the Construction Contract for this project was tabled by the City Council at their July 13 meeting for 2 weeks. The Council will revisit the decision to move forward at their July 27 meeting after they and staff use additional time to discuss in more detail the overall Street Improvement Program and the impacted project budgets. We apologize for any inconvenience this delay causes.

An open house meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, July 9, 2020 from 4:30-6:00pm at the Al Klingelhutz Memorial Pavilion, Lake Ann Park, 1456 West 78th Street in Chanhassen. At this meeting you will have an opportunity to review the project design and learn of some construction details. You will be able to ask questions related to the project including anything related to the assessments. This will be an informal meeting without a specific presentation; please feel free to join us at any time during the meeting’s time slot.

In keeping with the City’s response to the Covid-19 guidelines, we have chosen to host the meeting at an outdoor venue. City staff will be wearing masks and we encourage you to wear them as well, but they are not required in order to attend the meeting. Please be cognizant of social distancing throughout the meeting. We unfortunately are unable to provide any refreshments.

This project is currently in the bidding phase. Once bids are received and opened, Council will call for a Public Hearing. During that hearing, Council can accept the bids and award the contract. After contract documents are signed, construction can begin.
